Mdm2 antagonists
Mdm2 antagonists are pharmaceutical compounds designed to inhibit the function of Mdm2 (mouse double minute 2), a protein that negatively regulates the tumor suppressor p53. Mdm2 normally binds to p53 and promotes its degradation, thereby suppressing p53's ability to induce cell cycle arrest and apoptosis in response to DNA damage or cellular stress. By inhibiting Mdm2, antagonists prevent this interaction, leading to the stabilization and activation of p53.
