PERK activator
A PERK activator is a compound or molecule that stimulates the activity of the protein kinase RNA-like endoplasmic reticulum kinase (PERK). PERK is one of the key sensors of endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress and unfolded protein response (UPR), which are cellular mechanisms activated in response to the accumulation of misfolded proteins in the ER. Activation of PERK leads to phosphorylation of the eukaryotic initiation factor 2 alpha (eIF2α), which in turn attenuates protein synthesis, thereby reducing the load of new proteins entering the ER. This helps the cell cope with ER stress and prevents further accumulation of misfolded proteins.
