CaSR antagonist

A calcium-sensing receptor (CaSR) antagonist is a pharmaceutical agent that blocks or inhibits the function of the calcium-sensing receptor, a G protein-coupled receptor found primarily in parathyroid glands and various other tissues including the kidney and gastrointestinal tract. The CaSR plays a crucial role in regulating calcium homeostasis by sensing changes in extracellular calcium levels and modulating parathyroid hormone (PTH) secretion accordingly. Antagonizing the CaSR interferes with its ability to sense and respond to calcium levels, potentially leading to increased PTH secretion and subsequent mobilization of calcium from bone and reabsorption from the kidneys.
