Nereistoxin pesticides
Nereistoxin pesticides are a class of chemical compounds originally derived from the marine worm, Nereis diversicolor. These pesticides act as neurotoxins, targeting the nervous system of insects and other pests. Nereistoxin and its derivatives function by blocking the action of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine at nicotinic acetylcholine receptors in the insect's nervous system. This disruption leads to overstimulation of nerve cells, paralysis, and eventual death of the pest. Nereistoxin pesticides are valued for their high specificity to insects and relatively low toxicity to mammals and other non-target organisms.
