Abruslactone A, a new triterpenoid sapogenin isolated from the roots and vines of Abrus precatorius L., has been characterized by spectral and X-ray analysis as the γ-lactone of 3β,22α-dihydroxy-olean-12-en-29α-oic acid, with ring E in an unusual boat conformation.
