cis- and trans-2-(1,2-Diacetoxyethyl)-5-(1-hydroxy-1-methylethyl)-2-methyltetrahydrofurans were stereoselectively derived from 1,2-diacetoxy-3,7-dimethyloct-6-en-3-ol and 1,3-O-dimethoxy-benzylidene-3,7-dimethyloct-6-en-2-ol respectively.
