Double insertion of methylene into nickel-phosphorus bonds: Synthesis and structure of [Ni(CH2PPh2CH2PPh2) 2][Br]2

The new nickel phosphorus ylide complex, [Ni(CH₂PPh₂CH₂PPh₂) ₂][Br]₂ (1) has been prepared by the reaction of Ni(COD)₂, dppm (bis(diphenylphosphino)-methane), and CH₂Br₂. The complex crystallizes from DMSO as 1·2DSMO: triclinic space group P1, a - 9.972 (2) A?, b = 12.061 (2) A?, c = 12.675 (2) A?, α = 114.19 (1)°, β = 100.71 (1)°, γ = 91.45 (1)°, V = 1357.6 A?³ (Z = 1) Complex 1 can be reversibly deprotonated by 2 equiv of NaNH₂ to afford Ni(CH₂PPh₂CHPPh₂)₂ (2) and reprotonated by HBr.
