Stereocontrolled syntheses of the title compounds from (R)-2,3-isopropylidene glyceraldehyde, (S)-O-THP-lactaldehyde and 1,2:5,6-Di-O-isopropylidene-α-D-glucofuranose ('diacetone-D-glucose') are described.
