Facile synthesis of nitriles from primary nitro compounds via nitrolic acids and their esters

The reactions of alkane- and arylalkanenitrolic acids esters Bu₃SnH in the presence of a catalytic amount of AIBN in refluxing benzene afforded the corresponding nitriles in excellent yields.
