Irradiation of a mixture of 1,3-dienes, silanes, and pentacarbonyliron leads to mixtures of isomeric hydrosilylation products.The reaction is shown to proceed via the intermediate formation of (η3-anti-butenyl)tricarbonyliron-trialkylsilicon complexes which are accessible by photoinduced addition of R3SiH to (η4-butadiene)tricarbonyliron and, upon thermal decomposition, yield similar mixtures of isomeric butenyltrialkylsilicon derivatives.
