A Typ ica l P r oced u r e for th e Syn th esis of Selen op h en e
6. To a stirred solution (open to air) of diene 5h (100 mg, 0.32
mmol) in 6 mL of 1,4-dioxane/pyridine (5:1) was added selenium
dioxide (390 mg, 3.5 mmol). The mixture was vigorously stirred
at 80 °C for 10 h and then cooled to room temperature. The
reaction was quenched with water, washed with aqueous CuSO4,
extracted (4×) with ether, and dried over MgSO4. Evaporation
of solvent, followed by flash column chromatography (hexanes-
ether, 4:1), provided selenophene 6h (130 mg, 90%).
