The title compound, N,N'-p-phenylenebis(4-methylbenzamide), C₂₂H₂₀N₂O₂, crystallizes with an almost linear arrangement of the three benzene units, but both outer benzene ring planes are twisted relative to the plane of the central ring by 58.03 (6)°. N-H...O=C hydrogen bonds perpendicular to the long axis of the molecules connect them into ribbons parallel to the a axis.
