Friedel-Crafts benzylation of arenes using FeCI3 impregnated montmorillonite K10

FeCI₃ impregnated Montmorillonite K10 was found to catalyze the Friedel-Crafts benzylation of arenes. Monobenzylation, with the para isomer predominating, was achieved with trace amounts of dibenzylated product.
