Two unprecedented decompositions of tertiary hydroperoxides by Cu(II) in CH₃CN have been encountered : deoxygenation of 4- hydroperoxy cyclohexa 2,5- dienones 1 and 2 brings chemical support to the existence of intermediate peroxy radicals R-OO· 1′ and 2′.
