Mesogenic biphenyl derivatives with azo and ester central linkage

Biphenyl nucleus comprises one of the most interesting research areas in the study of relations between chemical constitution and mesomorphic properties. Few biphenyl derivatives with azo and ester central linkage having following general formula have been synthesized and their mesomorphic properties were evaluated. Where R=-H, -OCH₃, R'=-CH₃, -OCH₃, -OC₂H₅, -OC₄H₉; X=-H, -Br. All the synthesized compounds were characterized by elemental analysis and spectroscopic methods.
