composes the deformation density (Δρ) that accompanies the or-
bital interaction between properly constructed fragments into com-
plementary NOCV pairs. Visualization of these densities allows
identification of channels of electron transfer. For 2 and 3, the frag-
ments were the neutral ligands P(OMe)3 or PTA and
Ru(C6H5OC2H4OH)Cl2. For 4, the chosen fragments were the
charged species [L1]+ and [Ru(C6H5OC2H4OH)Cl]– All DFT calcu-
lations, including the NOCV analyses, were performed by using the
ADF 2012.01 program package.[46]
Catalytic Studies: The reactions were performed in a 90 mL stain-
less steel pipe reactor. The reactor was charged with either toluene
(5 mL) or 1:1 toluene/H2O (10 mL), 1-octene (6.40 mg,
5.74ϫ10–5 mol),
internal

1.93ϫ10–5 mol). The reactor was flushed with nitrogen three times
and then twice with syngas (1:1 CO/H2). The reactor was then pres-
surized and heated to the desired pressure and temperature. All
reactions were performed for 21 h, and samples were collected at
the beginning and end of each reaction.
