Photolysis of α-alkyldeoxybenzoins included in Li-X and Li-Y zeolites gave the corresponding rearranged p-alkylbenzophenones in near quantitative yields via the Norrish type I α-cleavage process.Such a striking behavior contrasts their normal reactivity in solution.
