We have measured the rate coefficient of the reaction between atomic hydrogen and NF(a1Δ) in a discharge-flow reactor by monitoring the decay of NF(1Δ) in excess hydrogen atoms.Reacting H2 with the effluents of a low-power discharge through NF3/Ar mixtures produced the NF(a).It was monitored in a fluorescence at 874 nm.A thermally stabilized discharge in H2/Ar mixtures generated the atomic hydrogen. The chemiluminescent titration of H with NOCl determined H atom number densities. The measured value is (3.1 +/- 0.6) x 1E-13 cm3 molecule-1 s-1.These results are necessary to evaluate the potential efficiency of a proposed scheme for generating metastable nitrogen beginning with the addition of atomic hydrogen to NF2.
