Ethanol initiates reactions using microwaves. A technique for aromatic ester synthesis

Orthophthalic monoesters were synthesized through a reaction between phthalic anhydride and potassium phenoxides. Synthesis was performed by irradiating pastes containing organic reagents and a small quantity of ethanol.
