Copper(I) halide catalyzed acylation of <(diethoxyphosphinyl)difluoromethyl>zinc bromide with ethyl chloroformate provides a safe, easily scaled up preparation of ethyl difluoro(diethoxyphosphinyl)acetate from readily available precursors.Silylation of this ester, followed by hydrolysis, gives difluorophosphonoacetic acid.
