The rearrangement of spiroepoxycyclohexadienones to benzo[1,3]dioxoles is best carred out in a non polar solvent (toluene, CCl₄) in presence of TBDMSCl. Application to the synthesis of naphthalene and tetrahydronaphthalene derivatives is described.
