Synthesis and mass spectral data of four potential biomarkers related to the C19 tricyclanes found in Australian oils and puget sound sediments

The synthesis of four potential biomarkers, 13α-, 13β-, 14α- and 14β-ethyl-8β(H)-podocarpane is reported. GC-MS comparison with an Australian oil C₁₉ tricyclane and the mass spectra of two Puget Sound C₁₉-terpanes evidenced non-identity of the synthetic compounds with the natural products; thus, proposed structures should be revised.
