Treatment of benzofuroxan derivatives with ferrous sulphate in DMSO/water solution affords in high yield o-nitroanilines. o-Nitroaniline was also obtained by reduction of benzofuroxan with thiophenol in presence of catalytic amount of Fe²⁺ or Fe³⁺ salts.
