4 Conclusions
A phosphorus-containing itaconic acid-based epoxy resin
(EADI) was synthesized successfully. Its cured resin
showed high flame retardancy (UL-94 V0-grade), and
comparable glass transition temperature (Tg) and mechani-
cal properties relative to a cured DGEBA system. As a reac-
tive flame retardant, its modified DGEBA systems showed
increased flame retardancy, Tg, and curing reactivity as well
as mechanical properties to some extent. We conclude that
EADI has great potential to be used as a green candidate for
fire-resistant applications in some fields.
