The substituent effects on the product distribution of the photosolvolyses of 2-chloropropiophenones in 2,2,2-trifluoroethanol were investigated.A ?-electron-donating methoxy substituent at p- and m-position enhanced the heterolytic product of the nucleophilic substitution over that of phenyl-rearrangement.
