The kinetics of the reaction HO2 + HO2 -> products (1) were studied in the pressure range of 5-770 torr at 296 K with flash photolysis of Cl2 in the presence of CH3OH and O2 as a source of HO2 radicals. These radicals were monitored by ultraviolet absorption at 220 nm.The rate coefficient k1 was found to be pressure dependent with a low-pressure limiting value of k10=(1.4 +/-0.2)E-12 cm3s-1.Above about 50 torr pressure the rate coefficient increases and becomes (2.5 +/-0.1)E-12 cm3s-1 at 1 atm of N2.Thus this reaction proceeds both by direct abstraction as well as addition.
