A laboratory method is presented for the preparation of ferrous bromide by heating ferric bromide or its crystal hydrate in toluene or xylene at reflux for 3-4 h.The yield is quantitative.The FeBr2 or 57FeBr2 sample thereby obtained may be used in the synthesis of iron porphyrin complexes.
