The reaction of 1-nitrobenzotriazole (1) with the cyclic amines 2-4 affording the triazenes 5-7 revealed ring opening of the 1,2,3-triazole ring of benzotriazole to the isomeric diazo compound 8 responsible for the formation of these triazenes.Crystal analysis of 5 and IR and 1H and 13C NMR spectra allowed the structure assignments for 5-7.From a dynamic NMR study of triazene 6 restricted rotation about the single N-N bond is inferred.
