Preparation: this chemical can be prepared by N-(2-bromo-ethyl)-phthalimide at the temperature of 25 °C. This reaction will need reagent P(CH3NCH2CH2)3N and solvent acetonitrile with the reaction time of 5 min. The yield is about 85%.

Uses of N-Vinylphthalimide: it can be used to produce N-trans-cinnamyl-phthalimide at the temperature of 110 °C. It will need reagent n-Bu3N with the reaction time of 10 hours. This reaction will also need catalyst Pd(OAc)2. The yield is about 65%.
