In analytical chemistry, it is used in quantitative determination of perhalogenated compounds by high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). 1,2-Dibromotetrachloroethane is used as halogenating reagent for the one-pot conversion of sulfones to alkenes by Ramberg-B?cklund rearrangement.
