Introduce the CO source into the reaction vessel under an inert atmosphere. This could be done by either using a CO gas cylinder or a CO-releasing reagent. Maintain the reaction mixture at an appropriate temperature and pressure for carbonylation to occur. Typically, this is done under elevated pressure (high-pressure reactor) and at an elevated temperature, usually in the range of 100-150°C.
