Claisen-Schmidt Reaction

In the Claisen-Schmidt reaction, an aldehyde or ketone reacts with an aromatic compound containing an electron-withdrawing group in the presence of a base to form a β-hydroxy carbonyl compound. This product can be converted to an enol ether or enamine.
