Knoevenagel Condensation

Knoevenagel condensation involves the reaction of an aldehyde with a compound containing an active methylene group (usually a compound with at least two hydrogen atoms bound to a carbon adjacent to a carbonyl group). This reaction can yield α,β-unsaturated aldehydes, which can be considered enol ethers.
