Chemical Baike

Formation of Pyrrole Ring

The reaction begins with the activation of an alkyne via coordination to the gold(I) catalyst. This generates a π-alkyne gold complex. A nearby nucleophilic amino group of 2-aminobenzylamine or its derivative attacks the alkyne, forming a pyrrole ring through a 5-endo-dig cyclization. This reaction leads to the formation of an intermediate with a pyrrole ring fused to a benzene ring.
