Chemical Baike

Homologation reaction

The zinc enolate reacts with an electrophile, which is a compound containing a suitable leaving group. This electrophile could be an alkyl halide or another activated compound. The nucleophilic addition of the zinc enolate to the electrophile forms a new carbon-carbon bond, resulting in the elongation of the carbon chain.
