Preparation of Ipriflavone: it is prepared by reaction of 7-hydroxy-3-phenyl-chromen-4-one with 2-iodo-propane. The reaction needs reagent potassium carbonate and solvent Acetone at the temperature of 56 ℃. The yield is about 96%.
Uses of Ipriflavone: it is used as a drug to prevent osteoporosis in postmenopausal women by inhibiting bone resorption and maintaining bone density. It is also used to produce other chemicals. For example, it can produce 1-(2-hydroxy-4-isopropoxy-phenyl)-2-phenyl-ethanone. The reaction occurs with reagent NaOH (1M) and other condition of heating for 3 hours. The yield is 95%.
