It also can be called CCCP ; 2-[2-(3-Chlorophenyl)hydrazono]malononitrile ; Propanedinitrile, [(3-chlorophenyl)hydrazono]- and [2-(3-Chlorophenyl)hydrazinylidene]propanedinitril .It is a nitrile, hydrazone and ionophore. Tt affects the protein synthesis reactions in seedling mitochondria; the mechanisms of action are under intensive study, see and references therein. In general, it causes the gradual destruction of living cells and death of the organism.
