2-Methoxycarbonylmethyl-4-acyloxy-2-cyclopenten-1-ones are stable in an acidic medium, and hydrolysis of their ester group takes place with high yields.The action of nucleophilic agents leads to cleavage of the 2-methoxycarbonylmethyl-4-acyloxy-2-cyclopenten-1-ones with the elimination of the arene(alkane)carboxylic acid and the formation of methyl 2-oxo-3(4)-cyclopentenylideneacetates.
