1-Butoxy-4-vinylbenzene (also known as 4-butoxystyrene) is a monomeric compound featuring a butoxy group (–OC4H9) attached to the para position of a vinyl-substituted benzene ring. It serves as a hydrophobic component in block copolymers, such as those described in the literature, where it contributes to the structural and functional properties of proton exchange membranes. Its incorporation into polystyrene-based block copolymers enhances phase separation and mechanical stability, making it valuable for fuel cell applications. 1-butoxy-4-vinylbenzene's alkoxy side chain influences membrane hydrophobicity, aiding in the formation of well-defined nanostructures that improve proton conductivity and oxidative resistance.

105337-03-9 Usage

Check Digit Verification of cas no

The CAS Registry Mumber 105337-03-9 includes 9 digits separated into 3 groups by hyphens. The first part of the number, starting from the left, has 6 digits, 1,0,5,3,3 and 7 respectively; the second part has 2 digits, 0 and 3 respectively.
Calculate Digit Verification of CAS Registry Number 105337-03:
(8*1)+(7*0)+(6*5)+(5*3)+(4*3)+(3*7)+(2*0)+(1*3)=89
89 % 10 = 9
So 105337-03-9 is a valid CAS Registry Number.

The first Suzuki-type cross-coupling between arylboronic acids and vinyl acetate is disclosed. The acetoxy moiety as the leaving group is realized in the coupling process. Rhodium complexes were found to be highly effective for promoting this transformati

Block copolystyrene derivatives having flexible alkylsulfonated side chains and hydrophobic alkoxy chains as a proton exchange membrane for fuel cell application

Sheng, Li,Higashihara, Tomoya,Maeda, Rina,Hayakawa, Teruaki,Ueda, Mitsuru

, p. 2216 - 2224 (2013)

A series of block copolystyrene derivatives, poly{[4-(4-sulfobutyloxy) styrene]x-block-[4-(n-butoxystyrene)]y} (PSBOS x-b-PnBOSy), containing a flexible alkylsufonated side chain and hydrophobic alkoxy chain with various ion exchange capacities (IECs) have been synthesized based on living anionic polymerization. The resulting crosslinked membranes were prepared using 4,4′-methylene-bis[2,6- bis(hydroxyethyl)phenol] as the crosslinker in the presence of methanesulfonic acid. The crosslinked PSBOS2.2-b-PnBOS1 membrane with IEC of 2.89 mequiv g-1 displays a high proton conductivity (0.01 S cm-1) at 30% relative humidity and 80 °C, which is comparable to that of Nafion. The well-developed phase separation and the continuous hydrophilic domains in the crosslinked PSBOS2.2-b-PnBOS1 membranes have been observed in a transmission electron microscope image. Moreover, the dynamic mechanical analysis measurement and Fenton's reagent testing show that the crosslinked PSBOSx-b-PnBOSy membranes have good mechanical properties and oxidative stability. These results indicate that the introduction of flexible alkylsulfonated side chains to the polystyrene main chains positively affect both the proton conductivity and oxidative stability.

Light-sensitive Low Molecular Weight Gelators (LMWGs) derived from glyconucleoside bolaamphiphiles containing a stilbene unit displayed gelation abilities in hydroalcoholic mixtures. These materials showed a gel-sol transition under UV irradiation thanks to E-Z isomerization of stilbene and could find potential applications as drug delivery systems.
