THE SYNTHESIS OF SOME MIXED METAL CLUSTER COMPLEXES OF OSMIUM WITH COBALT AND IRON
Graham, W. A. G.,Moss, J. R.
, p. 237 - 244 (1984)
The reactions of cis-dihydridotetracarbonylosmium, H2Os(CO)4 with both Fe2(CO)9 and Co2(CO)8 have been studied at room temparature. With Fe2(CO)9, the major product is Fe2Os(CO)12 and H2FeOs3(CO)13 was obtained as a minor product. With Co2(CO)8, Co2Os(CO)11 and H2Co2Os2(CO)12 are obtained, along with an unstable compound which was identified mass spectrometrically as HOsCo(CO)8.Os(CO)5 reacts under UV irradiation with Co2(CO)8 to give Co2Os(CO)11.The main product of the reaction of H2Os2(CO)8 with Fe2(CO)9 is FeOs2(CO)12.
PHOTOASSISTED SYNTHESIS OF MIXED-METAL CLUSTERS: , H2RuOs3(CO)13, AND H2FeOs3(CO)13
Burkhardt, Eric W.,Geoffroy, Gregory L.
, p. 179 - 188 (1980)
The utility of photochemical methods for the directed synthesis of mixed-metal clusters has been explored. The 366 nm photolysis of a solution containing (PPN=(Ph3P)2N+) and Os3(CO)12 gives the new cluster in 33percent yield.Irradiation of a mixture of Fe(CO)5 and H2Os3(CO)10 yields H2FeOs3(CO)13 in 95percent yield, and photolysis of Ru3(CO)12 in the presence of H2Os3(CO)10 gives the new cluster H2RuOs3(CO)13.Details of these syntheses, their probable mechanisms, and the characterization of the new compounds are discussed.
