Photoinduced intramolecular hydrogen atom transfer in 2-(2-hydroxyphenyl)benzoxazole and 2-(2-hydroxyphenyl)benzothiazole studied by laser flash photolysis

Ikegami, Masashi,Arai, Tatsuo

, p. 1296 - 1301 (2002)

2-(2-Hydroxyphenyl)benzoxazole (HBO) and 2-(2-hydroxyphenyl)benzothiazole (HBT) underwent hydrogen atom transfer to give the tautomer in both the singlet excited state and the triplet excited state. In the singlet excited state, the keto form produced by excited state hydrogen atom transfer underwent isomerization around the quasi-double bond to give the trans-keto form. In the triplet excited state, HBO and HBT were equilibrated between the enol form and the cis-keto form and the equilibrium constant was determined by triplet sensitization and quenching experiment by using laser flash photolysis in benzene at room temperature. From these results, we have revealed the energy diagram of the hydrogen atom transfer reaction of HBO and HBT both in the singlet excited state and the triplet excited state.

Ligand-free direct C-arylation of heterocycles with aryl halides over a metal-organic framework Cu2(BPDC)2(BPY) as an efficient and robust heterogeneous catalyst

Le, Hanh T.N.,Nguyen, Tung T.,Vu, Phuong H.L.,Truong, Thanh,Phan, Nam T.S.

, p. 74 - 82 (2014)

A crystalline porous metal-organic framework Cu2(BPDC) 2(BPY) was synthesized and characterized by X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR), atomic absorption spectrophotometry (AAS), hydrogen temperature-programmed reduction (H2-TPR), and nitrogen physisorption measurements. The Cu2(BPDC)2(BPY) exhibited high catalytic activity in direct CH arylation reactions between heterocyles and aryl halides. The Cu 2(BPDC)2(BPY)-catalyzed CH arylation reaction could proceed to higher conversion than that of the reaction using Cu 3(BTC)2, Cu(BDC), Cu(BPDC), and Cu2(BDC) 2(BPY) as catalyst. Furthermore, under our conditions, the Cu 2(BPDC)2(BPY) also exhibited significantly higher activity than that of common copper salts, including Cu(NO3)2, CuCl, CuCl2, and CuI. Excellent reusability of the Cu-MOF in the direct heterocycle CH arylation reaction was achieved.

TEMPO-mediated aerobic oxidative synthesis of 2-aryl benzoxazoles via ring-opening of benzoxazoles with benzylamines

Rao, Mugada Sugunakara,Hussain, Sahid

, p. 2684 - 2694 (2021/07/26)

A simple and efficient TEMPO-mediated system for aerobic oxidative synthesis of 2-aryl benzoxazoles from readily available benzoxazoles and primary benzylic and hetero benzylic amines is presented in one pot. The reaction proceeds through the ring-opening of benzoxazoles and is followed by oxidative condensation with benzylamines. These metal-free, straightforward reactions worked well with a wide range of substrates, yielding moderate to good yields under mild conditions using air as an external green oxidant.

Bimetallic Cooperative Catalysis for Decarbonylative Heteroarylation of Carboxylic Acids via C-O/C-H Coupling

Liu, Chengwei,Ji, Chong-Lei,Zhou, Tongliang,Hong, Xin,Szostak, Michal

supporting information, p. 10690 - 10699 (2021/04/09)

Cooperative bimetallic catalysis is a fundamental approach in modern synthetic chemistry. We report bimetallic cooperative catalysis for the direct decarbonylative heteroarylation of ubiquitous carboxylic acids via acyl C-O/C-H coupling. This novel catalytic system exploits the cooperative action of a copper catalyst and a palladium catalyst in decarbonylation, which enables highly chemoselective synthesis of important heterobiaryl motifs through the coupling of carboxylic acids with heteroarenes in the absence of prefunctionalization or directing groups. This cooperative decarbonylative method uses common carboxylic acids and shows a remarkably broad substrate scope (>70 examples), including late-stage modification of pharmaceuticals and streamlined synthesis of bioactive agents. Extensive mechanistic and computational studies were conducted to gain insight into the mechanism of the reaction. The key step involves intersection of the two catalytic cycles via transmetallation of the copper–aryl species with the palladium(II) intermediate generated by oxidative addition/decarbonylation.

Dowex 50W: A green mild reusable catalyst for the synthesis of 2-aryl benzoxazole derivatives in aqueous medium

Datta, Arup

, p. 341 - 347 (2021/05/19)

In this work simple efficient, one pot and environmentally friendly method was developed for the synthesis of 2-Aryl-1H-benzoxazole derivatives at 80oC using ortho-aminophenol and various aldehydes. It has been found that Dowex 50W is an effective catalyst to prepare moderate to high yield of a variety of benzoxazole derivatives through a clean and simple process. Aqueous medium, green methodology, rapid reaction, reusability of heterogeneous catalyst are the great advantages of this protocol.

Heterogeneous palladium (II)-complexed dendronized polymer: A rare palladium catalyst for the one-pot synthesis of 2-arylbenzoxazoles

George, Smitha,Sreekumar, Krishnapillai

, (2020/12/14)

The palladium complex of dendronized amine polymer (EG–Gn–Pd, n = 0, 1 and 2) having ethylene glycol-initiated polyepichlorohydrin as core was synthesized on a Merrifield resin support and was well characterized. Generally, palladium catalysts are known for carbon–carbon coupling reactions. Here, a developed catalyst was found to be good for benzoxazole synthesis. Higher generation dendronized polymer (EG–G2–Pd) was found to be better catalyst over lower generation dendronized polymers. Moreover, dendronized polymers were found to be a better catalyst over dendrigraft polymers. The catalyst reusability was checked and good yield was obtained for five cycles.

Phosphine-phosphonium ylides as ligands in palladium-catalysed C2-H arylation of benzoxazoles

Yao, Zhenyu,Lin, Xing,Chauvin, Remi,Wang, Lianhui,Gras, Emmanuel,Cui, Xiuling

, p. 3250 - 3254 (2020/05/25)

As balanced electron-rich P,C-chelating ligands, phosphine-phosphonium-ylides are considered for their ability to in situ promote palladium-catalysed direct C(sp2)–H arylation. Using methyl phosphonium salts of 2,2'-bis(diphenylphosphino)-1,1'-binaphtyl (“methyl-BINAPIUM”) as ylide precursors under optimized reaction conditions, arylation of benzoxazole was found to proceed in moderate to high yield to give functional 2-aryl benzoxazoles. A strong anion effect of the non-salt free ylide was evidenced (TfO? > I? > PF6? ≈ salt-free). This first example of phosphonium ylides as ligands in catalytic C–H activation extends the prospect of their general implementation in homogeneous transition metal catalysis.

Development of homogeneous polyamine organocatalyst for the synthesis of 2-aryl-substituted benzimidazole and benzoxazole derivatives

Kottayil, Hiba,Machingal, Shaibuna,Parackal B., Sherly mole,Alungal M., Shebitha,Theresa, Letcy V.,Govindan, Avudaiappan,Krishnapillai, Sreekumar

, p. 3310 - 3317 (2020/07/17)

A new polyamine was prepared by the ring opening polymerization of epichlorohydrin and properly characterized. The catalytic property of the prepared polymer was assessed by synthesizing 2-aryl-substituted benzimidazole and benzoxazole derivatives by the conjugation of o-phenylenediamine/o-aminophenol with various aromatic aldehydes in the presence of atmospheric oxygen. Significant attributes of the present synthesis include short reaction time, good to excellent yield, high purity, easy reusability, and room temperature reaction. The reaction was carried out in the absence of any metal catalyst and other cooxidants.
