Tungsten(VI) bromide, with the chemical formula WBr6, is a dark brown solid that is highly sensitive to light and moisture. It is a derivative of tungsten, a transition metal known for its high melting point and strength. tungsten(VI) bromide is typically synthesized by reacting tungsten with bromine or by reacting tungsten(VI) oxide with hydrogen bromide. Tungsten(VI) bromide is used in various applications, including the production of electronic components, as a catalyst in chemical reactions, and in the manufacturing of certain types of alloys. Due to its reactivity, it is crucial to handle tungsten(VI) bromide with care, typically in an inert atmosphere or under controlled conditions to prevent decomposition or unwanted reactions.

Check Digit Verification of cas no

The CAS Registry Mumber 13701-86-5 includes 8 digits separated into 3 groups by hyphens. The first part of the number, starting from the left, has 5 digits, 1,3,7,0 and 1 respectively; the second part has 2 digits, 8 and 6 respectively.
Calculate Digit Verification of CAS Registry Number 13701-86:
(7*1)+(6*3)+(5*7)+(4*0)+(3*1)+(2*8)+(1*6)=85
85 % 10 = 5
So 13701-86-5 is a valid CAS Registry Number.

Low-temperature preparation of tungsten halide clusters: Crystal structure of the adduct W5Br12 · SbBr31

Stroebele,Meyer

, p. 178 - 182 (2012/08/14)

Single-crystals of a new compound W5Br12 · SbBr3 (I) were isolated as a reaction product from the reduction of WBr6 with elemental antimony at 250°C. The crystal structure was determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. The structure contains square-pyramidal tungsten clusters being linked into infinite [(W 5Br8i)Br3aBr 2/2a-a] chains through shared W-Bra- a-W contacts of adjacent clusters. The structure of the adduct I can be viewed as an intercalation compound composed of double-layers of cluster chains alternating with mono-layers of SbBr3 molecules. Pleiades Publishing, Ltd., 2012.
