Steric and polar factors involving heteroring opening of 2-(α-benzoylamino-p-methoxystyryl)-6,8-dibromo-3,1-benzoxazin-4(H)-one

2-(α-Benzoylamino-p-methoxystyryl)-6,8-dibromo-3,1-benzoxazin-4(H)-one (IIa) has been prepared by the reaction of 4-(p-methoxybenzylidene)-2-phenyloxazol-5-one with 3,5-dibromoanthranilic acid in acetic acid followed by cyclisation in acetic anhydride.Reactions of IIa with amines, ethylacetoacetate, NaN3, P2S5, ammonium acetate and maleic anhydride have been studied.Friedel-Crafts' reaction on IIa with benzene and toluene gives VII.Hydrazinolysis of IIa with hydrazine hydrate and phenylhydrazine in n-butanol affords IVa,b.Reactions of IVa with aldehydes, aceticanhydride, and benzoyl chloride gives V, XVIIIa and XVIIIb, respectively.Treatment of X with a mixture of PCl5 and POCl3 gives XIII.Reaction of XIII with anthranilic acid, thiourea and NaN3 affords XIV, XV and XVI respectively.Mannich reaction on X with different bases gives the Mannich bases (XI) while methylation of X with methyl iodide in alkaline medium gives XII.
