Photocatalytic N-formylation of amines via a reductive quenching cycle in the presence of air
Ghosh, Tamal,Das, Amrita,K?nig, Burkhard
, p. 2536 - 2540 (2017)
Photochemical N-formylation of amines was performed under simple and mild reaction conditions. Amines are common electron donors in reductive photocatalysis, which then typically decompose after donating an electron to the photocatalyst. We have found that these oxidized amines can be utilized to give N-formamides in the presence of air without additional formylating agents. The reaction proceeds via the in situ formation of enamines. Oxygen (air) is necessary for the reaction to occur as it regenerates the photocatalyst forming superoxide radical anions as crucial intermediates involved in the reaction.
PROCESS FOR PREPARING FORMIC ACID
-
Paragraph 0205, (2013/07/31)
Process for obtaining formic acid by thermal separation of a stream comprising formic acid and a tertiary amine (I), in which a liquid stream comprising formic acid, tertiary amine (I) and water is produced by combining tertiary amine (I) and a formic acid source in the presence of water, water and organic decomposition products of the tertiary amine (I) are removed and formic acid is removed by distillation from the resulting liquid stream in a distillation apparatus, wherein the stream comprising water and organic decomposition products of the tertiary amine (I) which have been separated off is separated into two liquid phases, the upper liquid phase is removed and the lower, water-comprising liquid phase is recirculated to the formic acid source.
Intramolecular and intermolecular Schmidt reactions of alkyl azides with aldehydes
Lee, Huey-Lih,Aubé, Jeffrey
, p. 9007 - 9015 (2008/02/10)
Despite recent advances in the use of alkyl azides in ring expansion reactions of ketones, there has been little work done on the corresponding chemistry of aldehydes. In the present study, the Lewis acid-promoted reactions of alkyl azides with aldehydes
Reaction of aliphatic amines with 49% formic acid. 1-hexylamine, di-1-hexylamine, N,N-dimethyl-1-hexylamine, 1-dodecylamine, N,N-dimethyl-1-dodecylamine and N,N-dimethyl-1-butylamine

, p. 59 - 65 (2007/10/03)
Two primary amines, 1-hexylamine 2, 1-dodecylamine 19, one secondary amine, di-1-hexylamine 18, and three tertiary amines, N,N-dimethyl-1-hexylamine 6, N,N-dimethyl-1-butylamine 3, and N,N-dimethyl-1-dodecylamine 22 were each heated at 150°C, 250°C or 350°C with 49% aqueous formic acid for varying periods of time. The aliphatic primary amines underwent easy N-formylation and subsequent reduction to give N-methyl- and N,N-dimethylalkylamines. Especially at higher temperatures, other reactions intervened including elimination of NH3 to the corresponding alkenes followed by partial double bond isomerization. Tertiary amines were more reactive at higher temperatures undergoing hydrolysis and reductive cleavages to secondary and primary amines, which subsequently followed the reaction sequences seen for primary amines. This series of saturated amines showed none of the cleavage into smaller fragments that was observed in the reductive alkylation of pyridine and 4-methylpyridine to a series of N-alkylpiperdines. This result reinforces the bis-aza-retro-Aldol-fragmentation mechanism postulated for the formation of the N-alkylpiperidines. Johann Ambrosius Barth 1997.
Conversion of tertiary amines to formamides in presence of dichlorocarbene and phenoxide ion
Yonovich, Minda,Sasson, Yoel
