Chemoselective Reduction of the P=O Bond in the Presence of P–O and P–N Bonds in Phosphonate and Phosphinate Derivatives
Sowa, Sylwia,Pietrusiewicz, K. Micha?
supporting information, p. 923 - 938 (2019/01/22)
Chemoselective reduction of the strong P=O bond in the presence of weaker P–O (ester) and P–N (amide) bonds in phosphonic acid derivatives has constituted an unresolved problem in organophosphorus chemistry for years. This long-standing problem is now solved for biologically relevant α-hydroxy and α-amino phosphonic as well as phosphinic acids esters and amides. The reduction of the P=O bond without concomitant scission of the ester and amide bonds is affected by use of BH3, a mild reducing agent, which affords the corresponding borane protected PIII phosphonite and phosphinite derivatives in one step. A mechanistic rationale is proposed for the role played by neighboring OH and NHR groups in facilitating the reduction, and for the observed chemo- and stereoselectivity. The reduction methodology described opens previously unavailable synthetic options in chemistry of α-functionalized phosphonic and phosphinic acids by offering a unique possibility for direct modifications of oxidation level of the P-center in these compounds.

, p. 1242 - 1250 (2019/01/09)
A transition metal-free protocol has been developed for the oxidative coupling of primary amines to imines and azobenzenes, thiols to disulfides, and 2-aminothiophenols to benzothiazoles, offering excellent yields. The advantageous features of the present environmentally benign methodology include the usage of biocompatible and green reaction conditions such as, solvent, room temperature reactions and transition metal-free approach. Moreover, it offers a broader substrate scope.
One-Pot Catalytic Approach for the Selective Aerobic Synthesis of Imines from Alcohols and Amines Using Efficient Arene Diruthenium(II) Catalysts under Mild Conditions
Saranya, Sundar,Ramesh, Rengan,Grzegorz Ma?ecki, Jan
, p. 6726 - 6733 (2017/12/07)
A green and efficient catalytic approach for the selective synthesis of imines in air at room temperature was achieved with the aid of newly synthesised diruthenium(II) complexes [(η6-p-cymene)2Ru2Cl2(μ-L)] containing substituted 1,2-diacylhydrazine ligands. All the new complexes were fully characterised by analytical and spectroscopic techniques. The solid-state structure of a representative complex was solved by single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. The diruthenium(II) complexes also enable the selective aerobic oxidation of alcohols to aldehydes. The catalytic reaction operates in the presence of air as a green and cheap oxidant, and releases water as the only by-product. A plausible mechanism is proposed for the imine formation, which is believed to proceed via an aldehyde intermediate.

A new Mn(II) metal-organic framework (MOF) 1 was synthesized by the combination of 4,4,4-trifluoro-1-(4-(pyridin-4-yl)phenyl)butane-1,3-dione (L) and Mn(OAc)2 in solution. 1 features a threefold-interpenetrating NbO net containing honeycomb-like channels, in which the opposite Mn(II)···Mn(II) distance is 23.5075(10) ?. Furthermore, 1 can be an ideal platform to support Pd-Au bimetallic alloy nanoparticles to generate a composite catalytic system of Pd-Au@Mn(II)-MOF (2). 2 can be a highly active bifunctional heterogeneous catalyst for the one-pot tandem synthesis of imines from benzyl alcohols and anilines and from benzyl alcohols and benzylamines.

Synthesis and antitubercular activity of some 2-(4-substituted phenyl)-3-(4-substituted phenyl)-5-methylthiazolidin-4-ones
Patil, Sunila T.,Bhatt, Parloop A.
experimental part, p. 1405 - 1406 (2011/12/16)
The compounds 2-(4-substituted phenyl)-3-(4-substituted phenyl)-5-methylthiazolidin-4-ones were synthesized by condensing 4-substituted anilines with 4-substituted benzaldehydes by using ethanol as solvent. The synthesized compounds were heated with 2-mercaptopropionic acid in excess of benzene. The chemical nature of synthesized compounds have been confirmed by means of IR, NMR and mass data. The synthesized compounds were screened for antitubercular activity. The compounds were subjected to in vitro screening by the tube dilution technique employing the human virulent H37R V strain of M. tuberculosis using isoniazid as a reference standard. The results revealed that the test compounds IIa, IIc, IId, IIe, exhibits remarkable antitubercular activity against H37RV strain of Mycobacterium tuberculosis. The minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) values were found in the range of 25 to 42 μg/mL.
Aerobic oxidation of amines catalyzed by polymer-incarcerated au nanoclusters: Effect of cluster size and cooperative functional groups in the polymer
Miyamura, Hiroyuki,Morita, Masataka,Inasaki, Takeshi,Kobayashi, Shu
experimental part, p. 588 - 599 (2011/08/09)
Aerobic oxidation reaction of amines to imines catalyzed by polymer-incarcerated Au nanoclusters (PI-Au) was developed. The effect of cluster size for this oxidation reaction was carefully examined using the same polymer support. We have succeeded in preparation of various PI-Au catalysts containing different size clusters by modification of standard preparation methods. The size of clusters and their distribution were analyzed by electron microscopy. Interestingly, catalysts containing relatively larger clusters (>5 nm) showed higher activity in aerobic oxidation of amines than catalysts containing smaller clusters (13 nm) that showed much better activity for aerobic oxidation of alcohols. In addition, novel Au nanocluster catalysts immobilized on newly prepared polymer with tertiary amine groups were developed and they showed excellent activity for aerobic oxidation of amines to imines. The relation between cluster size and catalytic activity and role of tertiary amine in polymer were discussed. These catalysts could be applied to aerobic oxidative deprotection of p-methoxybenzyl groups.
