Friedel-Crafts Hydroxyalkylation of Indoles Mediated by Trimethylsilyl Trifluoromethanesulfonate

Indoles and N-alkylindoles undergo Friedel-Crafts addition to aldehydes in the presence of trimethylsilyl trifluoromethanesulfonate and a trialkylamine to produce 3-(1-silyloxyalkyl)indoles.
