Allylation of 2-substituted 5-nitro-1,3-dioxane lithium salts with allyl halides and allyl acetates in the presence of palladium complexes yields mixtures of stereoisomers whose ratio depends on the allyl halide and palladium catalyst used.

It was found that unsubstituted and substituted 5-nitro-1,3-dioxanes react with allyl acetates and allyl tosylates, giving high yields of the allylation products in the presence of Pd(PPh3)4.In the case of substituted 5-nitro-1,3-dioxanes a mixture of the stereoisomers is formed.
