A study on the synthesis and decomposition reactions of trans-4-methoxypentene-2 over a shaped sulfonated ion-exchange catalyst

The reactions of cis- and trans-pentadiene-1,3 with methanol in the presence of the sulfonated ionexchange catalyst KIF were studied. It was found that both pentadiene-1,3 isomers yielded the same product, trans-4-methoxypentene-2, in the reaction with methanol. A mechanism for the formation of this ether is proposed.
