Tetrahydrofuran, 2-propyl-, also known as 2-propyltetrahydrofuran or 2-(n-propyl)tetrahydrofuran, is a cyclic ether with the chemical formula C7H14O. It is a colorless liquid with a boiling point of 131-132°C and a density of 0.831 g/cm3. This organic compound is an important intermediate in the synthesis of various pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals, and other specialty chemicals. It is also used as a solvent in various industrial processes. The compound is produced by the reaction of 1,4-butanediol with propionaldehyde in the presence of an acid catalyst. Due to its chemical structure, 2-propyltetrahydrofuran exhibits good solubility in organic solvents and has a relatively low toxicity. However, it is still considered a hazardous substance and should be handled with care, following proper safety guidelines.

Check Digit Verification of cas no

The CAS Registry Mumber 3208-22-8 includes 7 digits separated into 3 groups by hyphens. The first part of the number, starting from the left, has 4 digits, 3,2,0 and 8 respectively; the second part has 2 digits, 2 and 2 respectively.
Calculate Digit Verification of CAS Registry Number 3208-22:
(6*3)+(5*2)+(4*0)+(3*8)+(2*2)+(1*2)=58
58 % 10 = 8
So 3208-22-8 is a valid CAS Registry Number.

Oxidation of alkanols into "symmetric" esters with the system Ce(SO4)2-LiBr

Nikishin,Sokova,Kapustina

, p. 303 - 308 (2009)

A method for the synthesis of "symmetric" esters based on the oxidation of primary straight-and iso-chain aliphatic alcohols C6 -C11 with the system Ce(SO4)2-LiBr in water has been suggested.

Solvent-free oxidation of aliphatic alcohols with ceric ammonium nitrate-lithium bromide system

Kapustina,Sokova,Gasanov,Nikishin

, p. 1501 - 1506 (2008/09/19)

Esters are formed during the solvent-free oxidation of primary aliphatic C5-C9 alcohols with Ce(NH4)2(NO 3)6-LiBr, whereas secondary octan-2-ol gives a mixture of isomeric 1-and 3-bromooctan-2-ones.

THE CONVERSION OF PRIMARY ALCOHOLS TO THE CORRESPONDING ALDEHYDES BY A MODIFIED LEAD TETRAACETATE OXIDATION

Mihailovic, M. Lj.,Konstantinovic, S.,Vukicevic, R.

, p. 2287 - 2290 (2007/10/02)

A novel metod for obtaining aldehydes in good yield from primary alcohols has been devised, using the combination lead tetraacetate-manganous diacetate as the oxidizing agent.
