The invention relates to 3-methyl-2-butene-1-aldehyde diisopentenyl acetal, which comprises 3-methyl-3-(3-methyl-2-butene-1-oxygen)-1-butene with the mass content of less than 450mg/kg. The prepared 3-methyl-2-butene-1-aldehyde diisopentenyl acetal is high in storage safety and good in stability.

Butyltin trichloride, as a catalyst precursor, promotes the following processes: (i) etherification of 2,3-unsaturated alcohols, (ii) etherification of functional diols, (iii) cyclization of 2,5-hexanedione, and (iv) dehydration of cyclic diols.Many examples are reported.
